Time is not the Enemy
It’s December 7, and I’m sure you’re already in the middle of the busy Christmas Season. Business seems to be the common dichotomy of this month. We desire to slow down and reflect on the Advent season, but our business oftentimes wins the battle. On the other hand, as a kid, the Christmas season cannot move fast enough. Children wait and wait and wait as each day creeps by waiting for that final 25th of December!!
I have had many conversations with people who act as if time is an enemy who has a personal vendetta with the world. Sometimes, you’ll hear people say, “I can’t wait anymore”…or on the other hand, you’ll hear others say, “I just don’t have enough time”.
As an artist, how has time impacted you? Do you battle with patience waiting for your next exciting opportunity? Or do you feel as though your business never gives you enough time to develop your creative craft? In the midst of these two struggles, I am continually challenged to take a look at my time on a moment by moment basis. In other words, instead of worrying about time moving too fast or too slow…I’ve been challenging myself to ask the question, “What am I doing with my time RIGHT NOW.”
And so, I leave you with the same question…
As a creative, what are you doing with your time RIGHT NOW? What observations of the world right now can help you grow as an artist? The time we have is not the enemy. It is a gift.
